That’s right, the world’s largest online retailer will be hosting its 10th annual shopping event later this month, and as usual we are anticipating significant discounts across all major consumer electronics and mobile categories. This includes everything from phones to tablets, to accessories, and yes, even Chromebooks. In fact, if past years are any indication, we should see several notable price drops on many of our favorite models.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is an annual online sales event that generally occurs during the summer months. Think of it as Black Friday, but in July, where tens of thousands of products are discounted at Amazon.com.

When is Prime Day?

This year, Amazon Prime Day is scheduled for the 16th and 17th of July. But although the bulk of the deals will be concentrated on those 48 hours, we typically start seeing discounts roll out weeks before, so be sure to keep checking back.

Do you need to be a Prime member to save on Amazon Prime Day deals?

Yes, you have to be an Amazon Prime member to enjoy all the perks of Amazon Prime Day. You might find that some deals are matched at other retailers, or open to non-Prime members on Amazon, but the majority of the savings will be exclusive to Prime customers. This is particularly the case with the highly sought-after discounts found in flash sales and invitation-only deals.

What to expect from Prime Day Chromebook deals

Our top priority for Prime Day Chromebook offers is going to be Chromebook Plus models. This distinction, set by Google, certifies that a given laptop meets certain hardware and specification requirements, thus giving it acces to exclusive Chrome OS features. This essentially takes all the guess work out of buying a Chromebook—if it carries the Plus moniker, it’s more than capable of handling your daily tasks. Some of our favorite Plus models include the Lenovo Flex 5i and the Acer Chromebook Plus 515, and we regularly see these go on sale with $100+ discounts.

Beyond the Plus Chromebooks, we are also keeping an eye out for deals on some of our favorite budget Chromebooks, as well as the best gaming Chromebooks. Budget Chromebooks can sit anywhere between $150 and $300, and a good discount can knock those prices down to $100 or less. As for gaming options, these are on the more expensive side, with extremely niche audiences, meaning these models have the potential for massive price drops. Rest assured that whatever your needs are, we will likely have plenty of deals and options for you to choose from.

Gaming Chromebook deals

Our favorite gaming Chromebook continues to be the Acer Chromebook 516 GE, so we are really hoping to see it get some Prime Day love to help out with its $650 price tag. It has a big 16″ QHD+ 120Hz display and an RGB keyboard. For a smaller, more buttoned-up option, there’s the HP Dragonfly Pro. It packs a mean punch, and disguises itself as a business laptop, but at $1,000 retail, it’s going to need even more help from discounts.

Budget Chromebook deals

As with most things, you get what you pay for in terms of Chromebook performance. The lower in price you go, the more you will likely have to sacrifice in terms of speed, multitasking abilities, and storage. For kids, or extremely casual users, we like the Acer Chromebook Spin 311 as a solid convertible option. It has an 11-inch touchscreen, solid battery life, and we’d like to see it drop to $200 (or below) on Prime Day.
