How to record your screen on a Samsung phone or tablet

There are simple ways to take a screenshot on a Samsung phone or tablet, but recording your screen isn’t as intuitive. Screen recording is available on all Samsung Galaxy devices with One UI 2 or later, and the top Samsung phones have this feature. We show you how to record your screen on a Samsung phone or tablet. The steps may differ depending on the version of One UI on your device, and we explain how to find the screen recording settings regardless of your device’s OS version.

How to record your screen on a Samsung phone

A screen recording tool is built into One UI on your Samsung Galaxy device. Here’s how to find this option:

  1. Swipe down twice from the top of the screen to show the Quick Settings panel. The first swipe opens the Notification bar. The second swipe expands the Quick Settings panel at the top of the screen.
  2. Tap the Screen recorder button. If it isn’t there, tap the + button to add it to the Quick Settings panel.
  3. Tap Start recording. The device displays a three-second countdown and starts recording.

Before you start recording, you can choose to:

  • Record media sounds (this covers any sound your phone produces).
  • Record media sounds and your microphone.
  • Turn off sound recording.
  • Show taps and touches on your screen to make it easier for someone to see interactions.

During recording, a floating bar appears on the screen. This panel doesn’t appear in the final recording, but you can interact with it during your recording.

The pencil icon lets you draw over your screen to show what you’re doing. The person icon allows you to record a selfie, making the video more immersive. The two buttons on the right pause and stop your recording. Resuming a paused recording stitches the final result together.

You can find your recording in your Galaxy device’s Gallery app under the Screen Recordings folder. You can edit and share them from there, just like any other video file.

This screen recording tool makes capturing your screen a breeze, but you may find it insufficient for your needs. If you need more features, like resolution options and editing tools, try an alternative screen recording app. There are plenty of options on the Play Store, so try a few to see which is best for your needs.
