Are cheap robot vacuums worth it?

While robot vacuums range in price, there are some cheaper options you’ll want to avoid only because the technology and performance they offer are a bit outdated. Most cheaper robot vacuums go off standard “collision” navigation, meaning they’ll just vacuum around the floor until they bump into something, then change course and continue onward. You’ll find this in models usually around the $100 mark.

This technology isn’t necessarily bad, and for those who just need a simple device to do the cleaning job, it isn’t a dealbreaker. However, spending about $100 more will get you features like floor mapping collision and obstacle sensors, so it’s worth it to start shopping for a robot vacuum at least $200 and up.

Is Shark as good as Roomba?

While iRobot Roomba’s are often the first thing people think of when they hear robot vacuum, there’s plenty of other models and brands available that not only match Roomba performance, but beat it. The Roomba is an industry-standard option, but models from Shark, EcoVacs, and Roborock also perform exceptionally well for their price.

You can never go wrong with a Roomba in my opinion, but don’t cut yourself out from other options on the market — especially when they are on sale. You may be able to find something that’s not only better than a Roomba, but also cheaper by quite a lot.
