What to expect for smartphone savings

We’ve seen some stellar deals in the past, but this year’s Amazon Prime Day summer event could be its biggest yet, with plenty of sizzling discounts on some of our favorite tech. And while there will no doubt be some fantastic savings on TVs, smartwatches, smart home products, headphones and earbuds, what we’re really looking forward to seeing are all the excellent promotions surrounding some of the best Android phones on the market.

Although Prime Day is still a little ways off, with the event set to start on July 16, that doesn’t mean we can’t already start thinking about what’s to come. With that said, this is the perfect time to take a look at what’s up for grabs and maybe even begin strategizing a bit on what kinds of deals might be offered during the event. After all, some of these deals could sell out in a matter of minutes, so it’s best to be aware of what’s out there right now to get ahead of the competition.

Best Prime Day Samsung deals

We’ve seen some great discounts on Samsung smartphones over the past few years, especially when the brand is launching something new. When it came to deals on its latest Galaxy S24 series, we didn’t see direct discounts on the phones, but there were promotions that offered free gift cards with purchase. As of now, there are no discounts on Galaxy S24 series phones, but there are some discounts that can be on Samsung’s A series and older models. But right now, the deals aren’t looking so good, so if you’ve been itching to buy one, we suggest you wait. As stated before, while there might not be any direct discounts offered on these phones during Prime Day, we’re bound to see some gift cards thrown in to make the purchases even sweeter.

Best Prime Day Pixel deals

When it comes to Google’s latest Pixel phones, we’ve been seeing discounts pretty regularly. And it’s not that these are bad phones, in fact, it’s actually quite the opposite, as these are some of our favorites. But the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have been out since the tail-end of 2023, which makes it harder for folks to spend their hard-earned money when there are plenty of newer options to choose from.

Now, you’re still going to be getting some great hardware here, and the Pixel phones deliver a solid experience when it comes to software and photography, so in our opinion, it’s definitely worth picking up the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro if you’re able to get them for a great price. Right now, we’re seeing some fantastic discounts on the phones, and we don’t think there are going to be further discounts during the Prime Day event.

However, if you are eyeing the more affordable Pixel 8a, it might be best to wait and see. While the phone currently has a $50 gift card attached with purchase, we think that things could get a little better during the upcoming sales period, with better incentives being offered during the Prime Day event.

Best Prime Day OnePlus deals

Just because Prime Day is around the corner doesn’t mean you should always wait. With that said, these are some of the best prices we’ve seen on the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R. So, if you’ve been in the market for a new OnePlus phone, grab it right now. Although there could be slightly better discounts on these handsets during the event, we highly doubt that because these are the lowest prices that have been recorded to date for these phones. If anything, there’s even the small chance that we may even see a price increase on these devices during the event.

Best Prime Day Motorola deals

If you’re one of the very few people keeping an eye out for Motorola deals during Prime Day, just give in and buy the phone you want now, because we don’t think that prices are going to drop enough to make a difference. The majority of Motorola’s device lineup has been out for quite some time, making them less appealing from a hardware perspective, and as such, the brand has priced its product accordingly. Don’t get me wrong, these are still very good phones, and are great options if you’re looking for something on a budget.

Best Prime Day foldable phone deals

While foldables are still a pretty hot product category, the allure of consumers has cooled considerably as they wait for better iterations with improved tech. Despite being halfway through 2024, we’ve yet to get new foldable smartphones from any of the major brands in the US, which means, everything you’re seeing above is current. Luckily, prices have come crashing down on a number of the best foldables right now, which means, it’s actually a great time to pick one up, even as Prime Day looms ahead.

Should I buy it now or wait for Prime Day?

For the most part, and what we’ve seen here, these deals are actually pretty solid. You’re getting some of the lowest prices we’ve seen to date on the majority of the inventory above and, best of all, they aren’t attached to any strings, since they are all being sold as unlocked models. Of course, because its Prime Day, there’s always the chance that we’ll see some special discounts during some limited-time Lightning deals, but for the most part, if you’re looking to buy a new phone, you should feel confident in these prices.

When is Prime Day?

Amazon announced that this year’s Prime Day event will take place on July 16 and 17. Amazon is planning to kick things off at 12:01AM PDT on July 16, so if you’re looking to save big, you might want to set your alarm clocks to take advantage of all the hot deals. Of course, you can always just browse the deals at your leisure, as there will be deals rolling out throughout the day.

How many Prime Day events are there?

Those that have been keeping tabs on Prime Day events will notice that the brand has expanded its event schedule, with a variety of Prime Day events throughout the year, with the most recent being the Prime Big Deal Days. For the most part, the summer event is the largest one it holds, which means, it’s the best time to shop and get some serious deals.

Do you need to be a Prime member to take advantage of Prime Day deals?

Yes, this is one of the requirements in order to take advantage of all the special deals that will arrive for the event. If you aren’t an Amazon Prime member, you won’t see special pricing for items, which means you won’t get the deepest savings during the event.

The good thing is that if you’ve never tried Amazon Prime, now’s going to be the perfect time to give it a whirl, as the brand offers a free 30-day trial for first-time users. Previous Amazon Prime members may even be able to pick up a highly limited time trial for a discounted price. Regardless, if you see something you want, you’ll need to be signed up to take advantage of all the sweet deals.
